Scalp assessment in New York
If you are in New York and want someone to look at your scalp and hair, you can ask for a scalp assessment through Milkreferring Scalp Consult. We pass your request to a provider in or near New York. We are a request service and do not examine anyone ourselves.
At the appointment, a provider usually looks at the pattern of your hair and the condition of your scalp, then asks about your medical history, medicines, diet, stress, recent illness or childbirth, and relatives with similar hair changes. They may order blood tests or refer you on to a dermatologist.
Cost and timing are set by the provider. Sending a request books nothing.
Ask about the next step
The most useful question at a scalp assessment is often the simplest one: what happens next? A provider may suggest blood tests, a referral to a dermatologist, a change to your routine, or a follow-up visit to compare how things look.
Ask why they suggest that step, what it involves, who you would see, and what it costs. If they mention options that need a prescription, ask who would prescribe them and how follow-up works. Hair changes can take a while to show a clear pattern, so it is also fair to ask when they would like to see you again.
Write a short timeline
One of the most helpful things you can bring to a scalp assessment is a simple timeline. It does not need to be neat. A few lines on a phone note will do.
Write down roughly when you first noticed a change, and what you noticed: more shedding, a wider part, a sore patch, itching. Then add anything else from around that time. A new medicine, a stressful stretch, an illness, a change in diet, a pregnancy or birth, a new hair product or style. Providers often ask about the months before a change started, so jotting it down now saves you trying to remember on the spot.
Questions about scalp assessment
Do I need a referral to ask for a scalp assessment?
You do not need one to send a request through this site. Some providers or insurance plans have their own rules, so if a referral matters for cost or coverage, ask the provider when they contact you.
Will the provider order blood tests?
Some may. Depending on your history and what they see, a provider might suggest blood work, refer you to a doctor who can order it, or decide it is not needed for now. Ask what any test would look for and how you will hear back.
Does Milkreferring Scalp Consult do the assessment?
No. Milkreferring Scalp Consult is a request service. We pass your request to a provider in or near New York, and that provider runs the assessment and sets the cost. The how it works page explains the steps.
